Guest Reader Reception featuring Mrs. Gritt's Outstanding Young Authors

Today Nicholas and I attended the Guest Reader Reception in Gabe's class.  Our special treat:  it was our turn to be read to by Mrs. Gritt's class!  Each student shared an original story with the room of adults who had visited and read to them throughout the year.

Were they ever composed and polite speakers and listeners!
Gabe read a story called, "The Weird Creature," dedicated to his Mom, Dad, and Family.
The Weird Creature
By Gabe Scott Hartle

SCREEEEECH...I heard a sound like someone scratching on a chalkboard.  But we were in the grocery store!  What could it be?  I was looking into the deep, freezing cold of the food store freezer.  I could not believe my eyes!  I felt like I was going to faint.  I never saw anything like it.
Mom was wondering what was taking me so long at the freezer.  She rushed over and looked shocked.  "What in the world is THAT?!" shouted Mom.  We both ran over to the cashier.  "Theere is a creature in your freezer!" yelled Mom.
"Have you gone mad, woman?" shouted the cashier.  "How can a disgusting creature get in this grocery store?" asked the cashier angrily.
Mom looked confused.  "How...?"  Just then we all clearly heard another screech.  All three of us quickly ran to the freezer.  The creature was still there!  The cashier opened the freezer.  "Wow!"  The creature was covered in frost like a blizzard had just hit!  One eye was half open and one was closed.
Its legs were so bumpy.  Its arm was wrinkled all over.  The cashier complained, "We need help right away!"  Just then the eye that was half open, closed.  I certainly did not want to eat my ice cream now!  It would probably taste like mud or dirt.
"Mom, I don't think I want to eat my ice cream now," I said.
"I don't either! Hey! Who will get that creature out?" asked Mom.
"Tell you what," dared the boss.  "If you get it out, you get three free cartons of ice cream, but if I win, I get five dollars out of your wallet."
"No way!" said Mom.
"Oh well, no ice cream for you!"
After all had shared their creations, we enjoyed a lovely spread of cupcakes, cookies, and punch. It was a fun and proud morning!

  1. Okay...I just have to say that I love your son's story. It made me laugh out loud, and I don't even know him.

(I visited from 4 the Love of Family...I'm an Alphabitty Moments flunky, sadly.)
